This is Sheikh Hasina, the typical oppressed brown woman in Bangladesh.
Except not really. After the mass murder of her family (including the father of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman), she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and became Prime Minister in 1996.
Her competition? Khaleda Zia, another woman. She was the second woman Prime Minister in the world. The first was another brown woman, Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan.
You see, Western feminists, we do happen to be leaders of our entire country.

I have mixed feelings about them. The government of Bangladesh is awful, according to my parents.

Bangladeshi girl here.
The government of Bangladesh is awful not because of the women depicted here, but the structure itself. I am personally an Awami League supporter, and the corruption that was in the government started with Mr. Ziaur Rahman himself, who is the second Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
I’m not saying that their politics are good, however the fact that they are able to be a leader of a country when they are WoC is astounding. I have much respect based on that, not because of their politics themselves. What Bangladesh needs is an overhaul of their laws which have plenty of loopholes, the decentralization of Dhaka, and less privileges to the military in order to become a better government. The point is that for them to be able to lead is admirable, and are role models for plenty of WoC around the world.
